Himachal in October: Autumn Routes, Trip Lengths and What to Check Before Booking

October is one of the clearer months. Days are mild, nights are cold in the hills, and the monsoon haze is gone. Late October forecasts for highway routes have been mostly dry.

Good places
- Shimla and the Kinnaur circuit
- Manali and Kullu
- Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Bir (October is also a good paragliding month)

High roads. The Manali to Kaza road over Kunzum Pass stays open into late autumn, but has been closed from late November in past years. Check the current status before you plan it.

Check before booking
1. Road status for high passes.
2. Stay availability during local festivals.
3. A buffer day for weather.

Trip lengths. Five days suits one region. Seven to ten suit two or more.
