Himachal in December: Snow Expectations, Open Routes and Realistic Plans

December brings cold, clear days and the first snowfall in higher areas, often late in the month. It is less certain than January and February.

Open routes. Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Chail, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie stay accessible through winter. Rohtang and Kunzum are shut in winter, and the Gramphu to Losar stretch has been closed from late November in past seasons.

Trip ideas
- A 4 to 5 day Shimla and Narkanda trip.
- Manali with Solang and Sissu.
- Dharamshala with McLeod Ganj.

Expectations. Snow in the first half of December is not reliable. If snow is your main goal, consider late December or January.
