Himachal in February: Where Snow Is Likely and Routes That Fit

Snow and bare trees on a Himachal hillside

January and February are the most dependable snow months in Himachal. By late February the days get longer and clearer.

Where snow is most likely
- Outer hill stations such as Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Chail, Manali and Dalhousie stay open through winter, as they do not need a high pass.
- Higher spots near Manali, such as Solang, Sissu and the Atal Tunnel north portal.
- Kinnaur villages like Kalpa, Sangla and Chitkul.

What stays closed. Rohtang, Kunzum and the Leh road are shut in winter. Jalori Pass, above Jibhi and Shoja, can stay closed or open only for short periods.

Route ideas
- Shimla, Kufri and Narkanda: easy from Chandigarh.
- Manali with Solang and Sissu: good for snow days with cafes.
- Dharamshala and Dalhousie: a calmer pair.

Planning
Snowfall cannot be promised, so keep one backup plan. Check road updates before moving between bases.
