Which Vehicle Should You Book for Himachal? Sedan, Ertiga, Innova or Tempo Traveller

A road cut into a rock face in the Himalayas

Pick the vehicle by people, luggage and road, not by habit.

- Sedan: two or three people with light luggage. Low ground clearance can be an issue on rough village roads.
- Ertiga-type MPV: small families, with more luggage space.
- Innova-type: more comfort and space for long drives.
- SUV or 4x4: better for snow, rough roads and high routes. Winter Spiti and Kinnaur link roads are better with such vehicles.
- Tempo traveller: large groups, usually on main roads.

Checks
1. Luggage fit. Seats are not the issue, the boot is.
2. Whether the vehicle is allowed in the places you plan to go. Some local areas have taxi union rules.
3. Driver experience on hill roads.
4. In winter, snow chains.

A bigger vehicle is not always better on narrow hill roads.
